What Does It Mean to Be a New Creation?

When you come to know Christ, you become a new creation. Peter explains this transformation in 1 Peter 1:22-23: "'You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.'" - 1 Peter 1:22-23 New Living Translation (NLT)

The Source of Real Change

Notice Peter's progression: Since you have been cleansed by truth, therefore you must love. Since you were born again, now you must love. This isn't about trying harder to be nice - it's about the fundamental change that occurs when God's nature dwells within us through the Holy Spirit.

Peter says we weren't born again from a perishable seed, but from an imperishable one - the living, enduring word of God. When this word comes into your life, it becomes alive and active, transforming you from the inside out.
