"'So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.'" - 1 Peter 1:13 New Living Translation (NLT)

Peter uses powerful imagery from the ancient world to illustrate this concept. In biblical times, people wore long robes that had to be tucked up when running or fighting to avoid tripping. Imagine trying to play soccer or run hurdles while wearing a long robe—it would be impossible to move freely and quickly.

This is exactly what Peter is describing. We must "tuck up" the loose ends of our thinking—the anxiety, comparison, and old patterns that slow us down spiritually. A disciplined life starts with a disciplined mind, and we are called to be mentally ready for action while anchoring our hope in Jesus' grace.
