Why Does Our Heavenly Father Have No Favorites?

"'And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as "temporary residents."'" - 1 Peter 1:17 New Living Translation (NLT)

Your relationship with God is personal and individual. Don't worry about what your spouse, children, or others are doing spiritually—focus on getting your vertical relationship with God right first, then worry about horizontal relationships.

What Was the Price of Our Freedom?

"'For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.'" - 1 Peter 1:18-19 New Living Translation (NLT)

We weren't purchased with currency that fluctuates with the market. We were bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Peter calls our old existence an "empty life"—without Christ, we were just running on temporary pleasures that ultimately led nowhere.

When you realize you've been ransomed from a dead-end life by the King of the universe, you don't want to go back to empty pursuits. This understanding should ignite excitement for God and create a desire to live set apart from worldly values.
